Individual Psychotherapy:  Doctor Shapiro provides both short-term and longer-term individual psychotherapy.

Short-term individual treatment is designed to address specific issues that are interfering with psychological and/or interpersonal adjustment.  These may include mild to moderate depression and/or anxiety, adjustment reactions, uncomplicated grief, a specific phobia, and relationship concerns.  Within such treatments, specific behavioral goals are addressed using some combination of problems solving techniques, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and behavioral techniques.

Longer-term individual therapy assists the individual in overcoming deeply engrained patterns of coping which repeatedly interfere with the individual's functioning.  Longer-term therapy involves helping the individual establish more adaptive core beliefs about themselves and the world he/she lives in, as well as to increasingly apply more functional behaviors and ways of relating to others.  Some clients choose to continue in longer-term treatment when they resolve the more immediate issues which led them to begin treatment intially.

Doctor Shapiro provides both short-term and longer-term individual therapy.  He continually works with his clients to reevaluate their unique treatment needs.

Group Psychotherapy:  The therapy groups that Dr. Shapiro conducts with adults and teens also include both time-limited and ongoing options.  Some groups meet for specified periods of time (usually 8-12 weeks) and address specific issues, such as grief, communication skills, coping with depression, etc.  Ongoing group therapy is provided to assist individuals in consolidating newly formed ways of coping and relating with others, as well as to serve as a source of ongoing support.

Dr. Shapiro and his team are excited to announce the formation of several exciting new groups, including an innovative Cognitive-Behavioral treatment group related to Health Concerns, as well as specialized groups for individuals Dealing with Depression and Coping with Depression.

Family and Couple's Counseling:  When appropriate, Doctor Shapiro includes Family and/or Couple's Counseling to the individual's treatment plan.  He uses a variety of approaches in his work with families and couples, including assisting parents in establishing positive parenting skills, teaching constructive communication and conflict resolution techniques, and helping the family system to recognize and correct for dysfunctional patterns of relating.  If there is a possible conflict of interest, Dr. Shapiro has a host of qualified licensed clinician to whom he can refer individuals, couples, and family members.

Complimentary Therapies:  Dr. Shapiro is continually adding sophisticated resources to his practice, and obtaining advanced specialty training with experts to build new adjunctive lines of treatment.  We are now excited to be offering adjunctive and complimentary therapies to supplement our treatment plans, including clinical hypnosis, biofeedback, and alpha-stim micro-current therapy. These provide added resources and make our practice fairly unique in the community.
